What You Get For Pushing Individual Mandates
My main objection to voting for (or supporting) Hillary Clinton was not the Iraq war vote, the potential for four to eight years of Republican distractions, or any of the other usual reasons several other people had.
My main objection was her insistence on pursuing individual health insurance mandates as a road to universal coverage.
There was and is a good reason for that objection, now made painfully apparent.
Then again, it's not like anyone could have possibly seen that - in the absence of a strong public health insurance plan - the insurance industry would be drooling at the opportunity to ream everyone when given no other choice but to pay their outrageous overhead or face a stiff and immediately active tax penalty...
